Could someone recommend a rug for a yearling. I have a saxon that fits where it touches(foal rug) they all seem to come up soooo loose around the necks. Other than darting im not sure which brand/make are narrower. Thanks

What breeding is your youngster?
I would recommend roughing them out on their first/second winters and let them just be a horse for at least the first couple of years of their lives :)

Cheap, cheerful and sewing darts in is the way forwards.

Of course it would be lovely to rough them off, but some babies drop an awful lot of weight at weaning. Also want to avoid anything nasty like rainscald on a little one.

I rug my youngsters and found the Cuddly Ponies range really good. Cheap for the quality. Nicely fitting and tough enough to last a winter of use. Think their sizes go up from tiny to 4'9".

F your youngster is narrow chested like my lad then I have found Rambos and Rhinos a fantastic fit.
I've got mine off eBay and equine carboots as they grow out of them so quick. I got a Rhino high neck turnout for £15 off eBay the other week!!!
If he's slightly chunky then I've found Mark Todds and weatherbeeta's a good fit, again get them second hand then it doesn't matter if they get trashed or they out grow them.
I've also found that the better makes like Rambos etc have a better resale price.

I agree with hudsonw, Horseware are good but I've not been so lucky with Ebay bargains, so I've mostly had Amigos.
