recommend some clippers

I also have the Harmonys - thrilled to bits with them. I did a chaser clip on a reasonably thick welsh pony coat no problem. As a newbie clipper it took me an hour, but the battery lasted fine. And they're quiet and just generally pleasant to use.

I also have these clippers. Well worth the extra investment Nah. I use them mainly on cattle and sheep, the battery is fab and so nice to be cordless with a decent battery.

I lied - mine aren't the harmony they're the element... but everything I said about them stands... I paid 80 and they are guaranteed to last 1000 hours, which I reckon is 1000 clips. They went through my pony's coat like it wasn't there. Fab!

For under one hundred pounds, you are not going to get a "clipper". The Liveryman Harmony retails for circa £199, the element considerably cheaper at circa £65. But please remember the element is a trimmer, the Harmony can be used for a full clip as long as you are clipping a clean, well groomed TB, but dont be thinking it will slice through a cobs coat with ease. If you want a decent clipper, with the power to clip propereley you really need to go for a bigger full size machine. These tend to have three inch wide blades and be mains powered. Although Lister UK do a battery powered machine. New this year is the excellent Heinegar Experience

There is a great saying in life, that "there aint no such thing as a free ride", whilst not cheap, you get what you pay for with a heinegar. Whilst many firms sell cheap Chinese imports or lower quality machines in a bid to gain sales, Heinegar have stayed true to quality, supplying equipment designed to last and blades made of quality steel. So perhaps rather than spending one hundred pounds on a trimmer, you might be tempted to save for a profesional set of clippers.

I have the Liveryman Arena, you wont get a new pair for £100, but you should be able to get a decent pair second hand (some with warranty depending on where you get them from)

They are a bit heavy, BUT, they will last forever as long as they are taken care of. Will do ten horses one after the other if needed.

Thanks everyone :) Neddy doesn't get much off when I trim and his coat is quite fine (not like a TB, but not a cobby either!)

I missed out on a fabulous deal, 1 clipper and 1 trimmer for just over £100!!
I would like something with a thinner blade so I can do some fancy patterns hehe :P

I would only ever buy Liveryman, mine are Mustang and are on their 12th season. They are more expensive but you get what you pay for and mine have never failed. Nah you can get different blades to attach to most clippers, I have differ blades for bodies and for legs.

I've got lister star, I think lister are fab. Have one pair that are decades old, slow & noisy but still clip. And used listers on yards too. Daughter insists on stuff like hearts etc, & her pony has such a tiny head standard clippers don't get right in the jaw. So I have some cheapo £10 wahl human ones for tidying up round any designs & in her jaw line.

Please, please be aware, I have been in the clipper trade for 16 years, you will NOT get a clipper for £100. I know times are tight and we are all under pressure, but the machines being advertised for ridiculous prices often come out of China. Many do not even conform to UK safety standards, many cannot be repaired as no spares are available and some actually are electrically unsafe. I fully realise that the thought of a sub £100 clipper sounds great, but you get what you pay for and I certainly would not want anyone to either throw away £100, or end up injuring themselves or their horse.

For some good advice, try www. c l i p p e r s h a r p . c o m I cant typ a link because H and H remove it. Good luck and happy clipping.

Not less than £100- more like £200, which I still think is cheap- masterclip clippers- I have the Royale with roaming battery pack and a friend got the more heavy duty ones, the name of which escapes me at this late hour- we are both delighted ! The way I see it is that if I pay someone to clip it costs me £30 a go, my clippers cost me less than £200, so if they do me 7 clips they have pretty much paid for themselves! If they manage more than 7, which it looks like they will, I'm laughing!

As has been said when you buy the cheap clippers you will struggle for parts & servicing. It is better to buy a quality used set than new cheap ones, they will last longer & can be serviced/repaired if you have an issue.

I have Wolseley Swift, I've had them at least 12 years & have done numerous clips with them & they've never let me down. They are not the most stylish clippers around but Wolseley have been making clippers for years & they are really reliable. I would recomment them to anyone. :)

I have a set of Llister Star's. Just come back from being serviced and are as good as ever. They're approaching five years old now and have done at least six full clips a year. Mine aren't sleek hairless TB's either ;)

I tried holding several pairs, when looking but the Lister's were lighter and didn't vibrate as much. They're quiet too and do a lovely neat job :)

I got mine from the *shop mentioned in Engineer's post*.

It got starred out when I posted it!
