Recommend something to remove scaley patches from mane?

I think my mare must have had a reaction to the fly repellent I used last week as her mane has suddenly become tacky and there are big flakes of skin coming away at the base of it. It looks like a really bad case of big-flake dandruff. Was just wondering what I should use to safely loosen the flakes and get the mane clean again? Hibiscrub? Anti-dandruff shampoo? Something else?

I have a similar problem in a sweetitch sufferer and have found the best thing to use is baby's cradle cap shampoo. I would suggest you look for Dentinox - Tesco stocks it.

If she were mine, I'd Head & Shoulders, but rinse really really well, then apply some Aloe Vera gel to sooth the skin in the areas affected.

I use neutrogena t gel shampoo on my lad and it's fantastic, about £4 from tesco he rubs his main something rotten and since using it the dandruff has gone and he's not rubbing it as much

Baby oil will loosen the dandruff, works a treat! I usually rub baby oil into the skin at the roots and then wash with an anti dandruff shampoo the next day
