Can I please have your recommendations for a good horse insurance company, good price, reliable and covers all the basic requirements?
I've got a 13 year old arab x mare, fit and healthy - I don't see the point in paying out for a vetting, as she's not that valuable - but I'd like to cover her for vet fess etc
Thoughts + recommendations welcomed - thanks! :)

I insured my horse through KBIS. Very helpfull, good rate i pay around £20 a month which covers horse, tack, vets fees to £3000 per incident etc. etc.
My horse isnt that valuable either, and i didnt have a vetting. Maybe try them.

nfu without a doubt, yes they can be expensive but they are the best around!! iv been insured with them now for four years and pay around £30 a month and i had only claimed once for £200 which they paid out straight away and i currently have an ongoing claim at around £600 upwards for lameness and farrier remedial work and have had no problems at all. my friends horse fell in a ditch while she was riding and they paid out for absolutley everything down to the clothes on her back!
eta: vet fees upto £5000.

I have always found AmTrust to be excellent to deal with and qick to deal with claims.

I changed when i bought new horse and went with amtrust - no claims so far so cant really say yet but cover is good and reasonsable cost

NFU are great but i have had just as good service for half the price with AIMS (part of SEIB) they paid out no problem when old cob was diagnosed with Ringbone and are hoping it goes as smoothly with Dex's claim i have just submitted..I do love the fact you speak to a horsey person :)

NFU every time for me. Unfortunately I have had to call on them a lot since buying my horse and they have always paid quickly without fuss. You might get cheaper, but to be honest the policy is only as good as how the claim is handled. Vets are always willing to wait for a cheque to be paid direct from NFU too, which is a bonus

Thank you everyone for your contributions! :D
My main problem with NFU is that they want a vets cert, which means paying out c £130 plus the premium!
Will try amtrust though.
Has anyone used horse-insurance.co.uk? Their pricing structure looks good, as you can pick and choose what to cover.

Horse-insurance.co.uk are E&L and most here will tell you to avoid...

My insurance is with them at the mo and tbh, I'm going to move to KBIS as better reputation and about £2 difference in the cover. Not such a bargain after the first year tbh.

Nfu for me too. I think I am right in saying that you only need a vets cert if the horse is valued at £5k or above? I don't have a vets cert for my mare, she is insured for £3k (vets fees max £5k and 12 months)

Thanks again everyone - I think I'm going with KBIS

Time to return the compliment - KBIS have a discount at the moment:

To celebrate the launch of the new KBIS site and our online quote system we are offering 15% off all online horse insurance policies taken out during July.

To get your 15% discount simply enter the code CO0710 in Step 5 of the horse insurance quotation link which can be accessed via the Retrieve Quote option at the top of the page.

Hope that helps! :D

Glad to hear it.

Sounds like you work for them though - clever way of getting an advert up, eventhough NFU seems to have received more positive feedback than any other company on this thread, your included.

No I don't work for them - and I'm sorry if you think I'm being disingenuous  Its just that NFU wanted a vets cert for my mare worth less than £2000, which seemed a bit steep - and SEIB premium was very high
Maybe I live in an expensive area!

Interesting thread. I used to be NFU, but they got very picky about vetting certs for new horses with me too - I got fed up in the end...

Been with Shearwater for two years, but they drive me mad with paperwork for myself and vet to fill in every year - always age, height, name, age, colour - which really should be on their records anyway?? So am moving this year.

Anymore suggestions welcomed guys...x

I'm with petplan equine. Premiums are a bit steep, but I have been with them for 8 years and always found them to be good. They didn't require a vets cert for either of my horses, although I think it is because I paid less than £3000 each for them.

NFU are great they undersatnd country people and we have thier horse and rider cove which basically covers everything and we insure the trailer with them too also if you borrow a trailer you can insure it for the day :)
