Having had a very bulky back protector previously, and being quite short in the body, I have been reluctant to wear one but now I want to start jumping/low level competing again so think I had better invest in a good one. Can anyone recommend a great one which is light and flexible and comfortable?

I recently bought a race safe after recommendations from here (and trying a few on) it is light, flexible and i cant say super comfortable but i can deal with it! I am also short in the body and they do short sizes.

Hi. I have a race safe. I do find mine comfortable. My son recently got a new one as he outgrew his and the new type (black with pull cord at side) don't come in a short back. The older ones (blue with laces) do. They can be specially made to measure but I would think that would be ££££££

I love my Race Safe - it is so comfortable that I hardly know I'm wearing it. I bought it in a short length but that was a few years ago (I see above that they don't come in short any more).

I wanted a Racesafe but after trying a few on, had to admit that it wasn't a good fit and Airowear fitted me better and despite it appearing more bulky, I could move in the saddle easier in the Airowear.

It doesn't cost a lot more to have a Racesafe altered to fit you perfectly.
Not only making back shorter but also changing front so it sits better.
They are an excellent company and very helpful.

I found the racesafe felt very bulky compared to my airoware outlyne which moulds to your shape rather than relies on little air pouches for flexibility

Going against the grain - Dainese. They're expensive (not far off £300 if you need adult sizes) but worth every penny. I've tried a few Racesafes and an Airowear (?) and none of them even come close to the Dainese in terms of comfort, breathability, or flexibility.

I have never worn one due to bulk and also being short in back I struggled to get one to fit. My racesafe provent is amazing, they are shorter in back even than the original racesafe and soo light. I can tack up, get on and ride and don't know i am wearing it. They do ladies sizes, unbelievably the short was too short on me but the standard was spot on!! I pay for any you get though! Not cheap but worth every penny!

I've got a very short torso (the short back racesafe was too long) and ended up in the Airowear Hickstead. I initially threw a shameful diva hissy fit about having to look at something that wasn't racesafe, but I absolutely love it - really comfortable. The only time I notice it is under low branches at TREC :p

Definitely get fitted by someone who knows what they're doing, and don't get fixated on a brand - what works for some won't work for others. I think it's like hats - buy the one that's right for you :)
