Recommendations for a fun hack with novice near-ish london? london

My friend is very keen to start riding and is starting to get a few lessons but he also wants to go for a hack in a few weekends time. Has anyone got any ideas of somewhere that would do a hack that is "not a boring walking trekking hack" (his request) and that has a really sensible cob that won't chuck off a cocky novice (my request). We're based in north london so anywhere within an hour or so's drive would be great!

Lovely View at "Barley"take people on hacks. Straight up A10 towards Royston and Barley village on Right just past Barkway(South Royston). Will take you about 45 mins from M25 and a good clean run. I think Barley has a village day coming up soon as I drove through tonight? So may be worth checking in case you end up in the middle of this! If you google you will find details.
