As above please but in nice colours that dont cost the earth :)
Ive recently discovered the joys of matchy match ha ha but my sensitive Princess seems better with the sheepskin/wool lined pads that Ive always used since she was backed. I have a black and brown one that are years old but would love a nice coloured one too. They are soooo expensive and seem to be mainly black or white.
Thank you in advance

I use an eskadron lambskin underlay. You can use it with any saddle pad so matchy matchy can still happen, plus its very thin and soft.

I use the nuumed ones - the lightweight wool one. They do a few colours now. The burgundy and dark green are lovely.
My saddler agreed I could use that one. She banned my le meiux one (too thick apparently).
Tempted by the lambskin underlay. How do you make sure it sits smoothly under the other pad?

I had a Mattes one, properly sourced, so it was genuine. I had to send a template in. When it came, it looked lovely. Only a couple of skins, beautifully made.

Sadly, as it became older, it became apparent that, although the skin side was only a couple of skins, the pile side was very definitely made up of more. Where the seams were became clogged with hair, in a straight line. The different pieces also wore very differently, so some were more curly than others, or a slightly different colour. Always the difference was along a seam line. So I wouldn't recommend them!

I have, until January this year, used Nuumed. I use the full wool ones. Love them. Wash well and dry overnight (the Mattes one took about 3 days, and if you accelerated it, like drying in direct sunlight, then the skin would be harder). I discounted those as the colours are still very limited.

I used to discount Le Mieux as, where the gullet is, I have seen some very rough edges. But think they have improved, and they had a half wool close contact dressage in the sale, in grey, I think it was forty something pounds, so I took the plunge. It has been lovely. So, another dressage and a close contact followed. I haven't been jumping because of Corona, so never tried the cc jump until last night. I loved it, logged on to buy a second and found the grey is no longer on sale, it is over £90  so one will have to do!

Wheres does this attach to please? Ive seen it has buckles but as my saddles a monoflap Im not sure where the buckles fasten to?

I had an eskadron underlay before, you can clearly see they are made up of 2 large pieces sewn together down the spine. They loop onto your saddlepad girth straps. I had mine moved as I used D ring tabs instead of normal girth straps. handy bit of kit if you just want a fairly thin layer.

I've never had an issue with the quality of mattes sheeps, though the binding on the pads rubbed my sensitive one after a bit.

The nuumeds I had built up big solid lumpy matts of hair between the wool and the quilt, even with regular cleaning and brushing. I wouldn't choose knitted wool again unless I planned to replace regularly.

I would look closely at LM before buying, i have a half pad which seems to be seamless but I had a girth sleeve that was made up of a jigsaw of small bits of sheepskin.

Mine is a mono flap too. I loop my saddle-pad top straps through the top buckles, so that the sheepskin is against the back, under the saddle-pad, then tack up as normal.

I use a Mattes sheepskin half pad. It's black and has no front or back roll, so not terribly noticeable. I use it under my square saddle pad when I use it. I did not get the straps since I have a monoflap but I did get the other Mattes secure fit feature (I cannot remember what it is called) where there is a piece that can fasten to the front and back of your saddle, I took it out and just keep it if I were to need it. The pad doesn't move or shift at all, so I haven't found any fastening straps to be necessary.

IME if you wash and brush these pads properly, they stay in good shape. I set my girth to dry in somewhat sunny area for 20 min or so after my ride, brush it out, and it's good to go. I wash it occasionally.
