To cut a long story short my horse has been lame for over a year. She was originally diagnosed with a suspensory problem on her left fore and a hock problem on her right hind. She has received PRP treatment on her foreleg on which she now appears to be sound and has had two cortisone injections into her hock. Unfortunately she is still lame on her hind leg and with £1200 left on my insurance my vet is suggesting a bone scan. My questions are:-

1. With the bare minimum amount of money left on my insurance I need to ensure she has the best possible treatment. Where in your opinion is the best place in the UK to carry out the scanning and also interpretation of the result.

2. How much did it cost?

Thanks!!!

I shopped around. To have a bone scan from 2 vets the difference I found was £500!
It is all costed on how much of the body they scam but some costs are fixed like being admitted for 2 days due to the nuclear isotope they inject.
I'd roughly say it should cost somewhere between £500-1000.
It won't leave you much for treatment.

Get a second opinion on your horse, this may be more cost effective.

Mine went to rossdales; Sunday to Thursday
She had her sacroiliac joint medicated plus X-rays etc. altogether with a bone scan came to nearly 4thousand

Mine went to Cambridge Equine vet hospital, mon-weds, scan, stifle x Ray and sacroiliac medication came to less than £1500 I think.

Mine went in to Langford, in Monday-Friday and had bone scan and blocks and sacroiliac medicated. Cost around 1500
Best of luck finding out what is wrong with her

It certainly fixed the lameness problem in mine (as much you can say fixed after 6 months). Before and after thermal images show great improvement. He was also diagnosed with a muscle glycogen storage disease and now I think has something going on in his head...but is sound at least!!

Mine also had numerous scans etx as they found a massive bone cyst. Yes she's as sound as she should be which is never going to be in full work sound but we hack :)
