Recommendations for decent human waterproofs please

I've been looking too! I'm watching this thread with interest as I need suggestions as well. Spent last winter getting soaked in wholly inadequate hoodies and light jackets. My problem is I get hot really easily and hate excess bulk as feel I can't move in it! Really looking for a good lightweight jacket/ coat that covers my bum. Was looking at the North Ridge 'Adapt 3 in 1' jacket on Go Outdoors as it says there's a fleece inner than you can zip in or out so sounds pretty versatile. Anyone tried it?
 
I have a kingsland Dillon light weight jacket and can honestly say it’s the most waterproof item I’ve ever owned.
I work outside aswell as doing my own horses so have spent hours out in it in awful weather. Now 3 or 4 years in and after lots of machine washing I think it may have started to leak slightly in a monsoon the other day.
 
Look up what materials things are made of, you want industry staples that you can reply on like Goretex variants, or in house waterproof fabrics from established outdoor brands, I'm suspicious that many used in the equestrian clothing industry that isn't a known industry brand is usually inadequate. I wear almost 100% Jack Wolfskin for my saddle fitting work.

3 in 1 jackets are okay but often don't have the very best materials and North Ridge is only a lower to mid market brand, not sure how well their materials would perform if not a named fabric.

The one issue with wearing waterproofs for horsey stuff is that being filthy will decrease waterproofedness yet washing reduces it further. When you do wash use a proper tech wash and/or use a reproofer, Nikwax or Grangers.

Definitely this, I don't buy horsey waterproofs (except the Decathlon waterproof jods) - I have an old Berghaus walking jacket for most rain, then I sometimes very naughtily wear my lovely Mountain Equipment walking coat for Bad Rain. Only for actually sitting on the horse though, not for around the yard.
 
It's why I love Wolfskin, their website lists the water column (waterproofness) and breathability for all their fabrics, even though most are their own brand, as well as weight for the garment. I have a superb winter jacket from them that is lighter than any other jacket I own, is at least equal warmth to a down jacket I own, and is WAY up there in both waterproofness and breathability. And of course I got it in the sale :cool:
 
You can’t get much more waterproof than Musto jackets. They do riding stuff as well as sailing kit and I picked up a thin fleece lined jacket in the sales for less than half price from Hope Valley 2 years ago. I wear it over a tee shirt in winter and it’s warm and waterproof without being bulky. I have a slightly thinner unlined Mountain Horse jacket but it doesn’t have a hood. Also a bargain for £25 in the sales. Trousers I have cheap and cheerful waterproofs from Millets which work just fine.
 
I bought the JustChaps full seat trousers and they are great, I really like them, and with one of the higher price Decathlon waterproof jackets (from the hiking section?) I've been delightfully dry.

Musto sadly have stopped doing outer riding gear about a year or more ago, a huge shame as I love my lightweight canter jacket.
I've been keeping my eyes open for old stock anywhere, but no joy :(
Their sailing gear is just as robust tho but not cut to riding length/shape.
 
I have yet to find a pair of waterproof trousers that last a mornings riding out for more than a few weeks. If you go down the farmer Gummy route then you get just as wet from sweat on the inside.
 
I have JustChaps full seat trousers for work and they’ve been brilliant and kept me dry all day (I work outside for about 6 hours a day with very little shelter).

Coat wise, I have a Tog24 coat that has the highest waterproofing they offer (10,000). It’s a delightful neon pink but at least I’m easy to find at work ?
