I love the look of all the new jod/riding tights etc with the handy thigh pockets for phones etc, but are they all made out of that shiny/thin material that skags easily? Thats what I make it to be from the photos.

I cant bring myself to spend £60 on a pair that will have a mark on them from just stuffing a haynet! I'm always getting caught in bits in bridleways, fixing fencing etc so I need something that will hold its own.

I have my old faithful tough ones from Derby house & Requisite still going strong but will need some new ones shortly!

TIA!! :)

I shall follow this post closely, have been looking to get another pair of breeches for RC and day to day riding but am unwilling to even try the lycra tights, nowhere near me now stocks the likes of plain coloured std breeches without the apparently obligatory sparkles on ? except the boutique store and I'm not prepared to pay 120 upwards for Pikeur to go grubbing about in.
I'm also 'between' a 12 and 14 so this complicates things a little...
My old Mark Todd's etc are doing sterling service, as are my 4 x comp breeches, but I'm not using them every day.

Sorry OP, jumping on your band wagon! ☺

You're more than welcome!! I'm the same size too which as you say, complicates it.

I've had some Just Toggs ones recently which have done ok but even they bobbled quickly & now look tatty. Like you mentioned, Pikeur & the like all seem the right stuff but I cant bring myself to buy they just to get caught up in some brambles or the like!

I was always sceptical about the riding tights.... but bought my first pair a few weeks ago and have fallen in love! ? they are from Blackfort Equestrian, are fantastic quality and have a lot of different styles. I an so pleased I am going to get some more and best of all they are only £42!

Are they all that lycra material though that skags?

Great if I was able to just ride & keep myself tidy but inevitably I end up covered in hay & it makes anything shiny/lycra bobbly & pulls threats etc.

No they are thicker than that - and hay and dirt doesn't stick to them so you end up staying cleaner.

For those looking for breeches, I can recommend Horze. I am not keen on riding tights, and am too tight and poor to spend £££ on breeches that will just get mucked up. I’m fussy on fit and comfort and like a high waist. I went on Horze.co.uk and leafed through their sale and got 2 pairs of really comfy, true to size, decent wearing, high waisted breeches for £25 for one pair and £30 for the other. I can try to look at the models I got if anyone is interested
Edit to say I am between 12-14. Closer to 12 on a good day, tend to buy 14 generally

It depends on what you like, my favourite are legacy lifestyle jodhpurs, they are just a nice decent weight stretch cotton and really soft. No stickiness but i don't like a sticky seat, and you can often get them in the £25-30 range. They last a good while and wash well. I have some horze ones but i find them quite stiff and scratchy so keep going back to the lifestyle ones.

Thanks for starting this thread. I’m also after plain, well fitting, Jods or breeches. Lycra legging type things and/or sparkles are not for me.

I have a few that are mentioned here.
Blackford are excellent, but do have sticky bits, I would say they come up slightly big
Flexars are great, no sticky, true to size, they look tiny when you first get them though.
Horze also good, range of designs, find them true to size

I'd be interested to know what models you got if you don't mind looking. I'm the same size as you with the same requirements!

Horze do good sales if you sign up to their newsletter there will often be 30% off breeches etc.
I have horze Tara, with a high waist but a sticky seat, think they were about £36. Come in practical colours (I have a pair called 'Tan' I think, and the colour hides a multitude of muck!). Defo worth a look.

I just stick to my trusty Mark Todd Gisborne breeches, they are comfortable and wear well. I also like the Dublin cool it gel tights for summer, they also stand up to day to day horse chores and riding, they aren't shiny or snag easily.

Avoid the Just Togs Just Tights, they are awful! They’re so shiny they look like retro satin disco leggings ???
The material is so thin it snags on everything ?

Horze, HKM or Montar. I recently got a pair of the more expensive Fouganza ones too and I really like them. They're really comfortable and look smart.

I buy expensive brands (that are durable and fit me well), second hand from ebay. I have a running search in my size on ebay. I now have too many pairs.

Though since I have discovered Nobel Outfitter riding tights, they are all I wear (unless competing) in summer.

I'd be interested to know what models you got if you don't mind looking. I'm the same size as you with the same requirements!

these are what I got:

my favourite of the two: Women’s High Waist Silicone Full Seat Breeches Product ID CP3621 £34.99 - the silicone is like a little pattern so not too obtrusive, doesn’t weld you in place but is about right for me (I don’t like ones where you have to make damn sure you are sat in exactly the right position when you mount else you won’t feel right for the rest of your ride because you feel stuck!)

Womens High Waist Breeches with Leather Knee Patch (the leather is suede, I like it) Product ID CP3635 £25.79

I took this info from my order confirmation email, so they don’t seem to have a ‘name’ like ‘Jessica’ or anything like a lot of breeches now

Toggi riding tights, not to thick but not thin, super comfy and don't sag. Their breeches are nice as well and not bank breaking. Felix Buhler do good breeches.
Most of my breeches are very old Derby House ones, not sure what they are like now thou. Montar breeches are nice, don't quite suit my shape for some reason but good quality and you can pick them up on sale from some places so more affordable.

I agree, my horze breeches are well made, wouldn’t imagine they would snag during the “shit jobs” etc. I got them very cheaply through my local tack shop that sell end of line stuff so can’t recommend the types as they likely don’t do them anymore! I also have a pair of hkm breeches in like jodhpur material and they’re good quality too! However I’m now a riding leggings fan ? (although not for competition yet)

Just an update, OP I suggest you look at the Rugged breeches, I've just picked up a pair at local boutique tack shop, under 60, fit ok. No sparkles, no sticky bum or knees etc, just bog std navy breeches :)
There were others too, but I'm not spending 140 upwards on Pikeur denim or even more for the likes of PS or Equiline etc for everyday stuff.
Sadly my card got a bashing as I picked up a couple of plain polo t shirts too.......

I really like Noble Outfitters and Flexar riding tights butfor me the dark horse was GS Equestrian riding tights.

I've had my pair two years now and they are still washing & wearing so well for under £25. I even got caught in gorse and brambles the other day and they didnt even rip. They've not sagged either.
