Hi

Could anyone recommend really good farriers covering Central Scotland?

Preferably someone who takes time to assess horses' movement and balance feet.

Thank you from a very frustrated TPO

I use Ian Gajczak (he's based in East Lothian) who used to travel with Ruraidh Robb and has since gone on his own. Then there's a guy who my friend takes her horse to a Clyde Veterniary Group equine hospital - I don't know his name but he does natural balance shoes. There's also another guy who travels round midlothian who has trained with the guy at CVG that my RI swears by. Also does Natural Balance shoes.

I use Ian Marshall based around Mid/East Lothian but travels as far as fife i think, cant remember but he is the only farrier in two years that has noticed taz puts his feet down funny so needs braising put on his shoes to help him get the right movement! and to stop him brushing on the back out of four farriers ive used

Another vote for Ian Gajczak i got outvoted at our yard when him and Ruardhi split up.

I'm sorry but would definately avoid Ian Marshall, he does a couple on the yard and their feet always look like they need done even when he has just been.

Thanks, unfortunately I think everyone is too far out for me but I'll make a few calls.

I agree that Ally is a good farrier but it depends what mood he's in. Sometimes I got the impression he couldn't be bothered and although he made a good job of putting the shoes on he didn't balance the feet or evaluate the horse moving. I'm not wanting to play that lottery with their feet so got a new farrier last year, unfortunately he's busier in his home area now so not travelling out so far.

Jen taz any chance you could send me his number? moved to a new yard and the farrier who does the yard has let me down 3 times now and wont return my calls
cheers Kerry
