Hi All

I've just bought a new 5 year old TB who's very sharp, he arrives this weekend.

He's currently being fed Ready Mash Extra and Barley/Linseed mash, but he lacks condition/muscle and I'd like to fatten him up a little bit.

I was thinking of keeping him on the ready mash extra for now anyway, as I don't want to add any more stress with moving him to a new yard and then changing his feed as well, but I was going to buy a bag of Equi-Jewel and add a mug per feed with the ready mash for now? But its expensive, are there any other options on the market that are similar?

Can any provide any feed advice going forwards, Im worried the ready mash extra might be a bit too 'high starch' and he'd be better on some calm and condition instead with a bit of fiber?

thanks
:)

If he likes the mash they do one called Solution Mash for weight gain and is low in sugar and starch, and I'd cut out the barley, you can still feed the micronized linseed, the starch is high in ready mash extra so you are wise to want to change especially if hes sharp. They are very helpful if you message them on facebook.

For weight gain on my horse I fed 5 feeds a day of Topspec Fibre Plus cubes and a balancer.

Saracen Releve is also good for weight gain and I used to feed it alongside their super fibre pencils. You can also add Equijewel if you wish.

All these companies are very helpful if you contact them and will send you samples

i had a super fizzy tb and he did well on ad lib hay and a balancer. i added copra coolstance when he needed to bulk up for shows or more work. for fizzy types i found outshine good, or bluegrass do a flax plus version which is cheaper. i could never feed my lad anything barley based or it would blow his brains
