Recommendations for hand-held massage devices please

I've been googling and ebaying massage units but I'm not sure how good they are. Or if they're even what I want/need!

The Ginga Ninja has a chronic tense neck from Headshaking (:() and loves a good deep massage up near his poll but it's hard work and I'm getting sore hands (not helped by him being super-sized). A handheld until would be SOOOOO much easier.

Could anyone recommend some please, esp brand and model so I can search for them.

My Horse Chiro recommended one for me as I have arthritis and find massaging my horse difficult- I bought the scholl massager (argos/amazon-£30ish)-it is excellent and my horse now selects which bit she wants doing-I hold it up and she rubs onto it to get just the right spot!
 
That's the one I have earmarked on Amazon! Probably: what model is yours?

Is it quite powerful? It seems like a lot of the cheaper ones are not much better than an electric toothbrush.

I sold hundreds of them and when out saddle fitting often took one to use on nervous horses to calm them down before I fitted their saddles.
Seemed to work and I regularly use it on friends as well as my dogs, it sends the dogs off to sleep straight away.
I also have wooden and plastic "spiders and octopuses" which massage through their many legs.

I have a wooden one with balls on it - had held -it is a human one, good for getting in awkward spaced
I have a rechargable hand held one with 4 metal balls on, great for shoulders.
I have a niagra hand held that plugs in and is adjustable speed
I also have 2 equilibrium massage pads (don't ask)

I've got one of them and they're sooooo relaxing. But sadly not what I need (might take mine to the yard anyway tho as I bet he'll love it!). He needs proper muscle massage and something to use between physio sessions. Physio said 'hand held massage machine' but I didn't think to ask which one at the time!

The Equisage mitt would be perfect but I can't justify forking out that much for one right now :( The pad would be pointless for him too: his saddle and back are one of the few area's hes NOT tight. He's tight in the neck due to head shaking and often the hamstrings due to regular idiotic cavorting about in the field.

WelshD: that's more my kind of price ;) It might be a good place to start (although I doubt it'll be powerful enough)

I'm going to dig out the spider plastic massage I have somewhere as it's still easier than using my fingers!

What's the name of your rechargeable one? The Scholl one I've earmarked looks perfect but is mains cable, which is a faff.
 
I have two equissage ones one mains one battery the mains one is better .
If you search niagara massage unit on eBay the human ones will come up so so much cheaper than the equissage horse version (they look exactly the same ) you can pick them up for a little as a £10.

have you heard of The Masterson Method? it has some very good exercises for tension-lots of videos/books available and they do owner weekend courses (lots of fun). Just FYI :)
 
Haven't read all the replies so sorry if someone else has suggested this one already.

My equine chiropractor uses the hand held one from Equissage. I have one myself at home that I used on myself and it's great. Don't know how much it costs though I'm afraid.
