So, it turns out that my big baby is REALLY BIG and has a VERY long neck.
I seem to have been remembering and then forgetting this frequently over the last few months
I got on her for the first time a few months ago and discovered that I really did not have long enough reins - with my arms at full extension I was right on the buckle and she still couldn't get a full stretch. (I had a helper on the ground holding onto a lunge, we weren't free range!)
To me that wasn't safe, and I made a decision at the time that I wouldn't get back on until I had my tack sorted. All very sensible.
I now have possibly half a dozen sets of reins that are all the same length On the plus side, I've ditched my trashed reins and Tris now has a smart bridle and a work bridle.
Currently there is a set of 61" reins on their way to me. Has anyone ever found this length to be too short?!
If they are still too short, does anyone have any suggestions for where to purchase reins suitable for your garden variety giraffe??
