So, I've been told that I always go for 'flashy' horses and that's what gets me into trouble!

Finally realised that I don't need a TB or a flashy warmblood - I need something I can get on and do whatever I want!

Must be able to hunt, jump, xc, turn it's hoof to a bit of SJ and a prelim dressage test - I don't mind a bit green in the school as I can get over that - the horse has to have a sane mind and a willingness to work.

I also want something that my other half can have a plod around the block with and isn't going to get tanked across the downs by it.

I'll have ty still so I'll have my nutty TB galloping sessions sewn up.

I'm actually considering a cob, which is something I never thought I'd say (don't mean to offend but it's my own ignorance!) but prob need a cross as my OH is 13 stone and a 6 ft and a bit rugby player

Want something sound and will even look at mares

Would prefer loan wvtb or must have a trial - I can't afford to make a Ty sized mistake again.......

Really appreciate your suggestions! x

Irish draft??

I'd love a cob if I ever got another one!!

Yeah already thinking Irish Draft.....I've got a friend in Ireland who hunts with the county clare hunt and is always telling me to come over and pick something to take home

Might just take him up on that.....

I have a 16.1 ID x Cob, that I bought when searching for a tb, had the same views as you lol!! He is the best and can and will do anything, ok maybe not will but he can. He isn't the safest or most sane and certainly not a plod but he does know when he has to behave so is perfect for me to be mad on but then I can put a child on his back or throw OH up there and he knows what to do. He has an amazing personality and is just the best, get one get one!!!

I don't think it matters what breed you get really, what you want is something with manners and brakes - but that also looks smart.

Sorry V, really can't see you on a cob - you are definately a TBX or WB person. And there are plenty out there with a sane head on their shoulders.

Will keep my ear to the ground for you.

Maybe a cob cross or something? Happy with an ID x, think that might be the way forward?

Why not look at the more aged bracket if you're wanting something more level headed?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because I already have a 9 year old with hock problems - I know that it's silly but I want something that is going to last a while....I've already proven to myself that I can't get rid of them and I don't want to collect horses that can't do anythign!

Hmm, think something either ID x or Connemara x could be suitable as they tend to have pretty calm natures but are sturdy enough to turn their hoof to most things. I have a Conn x TB (dun) and he's been fantastic for the 13 years I have had him. He does a bit of everything and is no plod but is safe and will hack out with my mum and also compete XC/SJ etc with me or really anyone - he has been a regular for PC SJ Areas and he's just so genuine (although he's a cheeky b*gger on the ground)

We also have an Andalusian x TB who thinks the idea of going x-country is fantastic (as is SJ) even though eh hadn;t the faintest idea what x-country was when we got him! However AN x TB may not be weight carrying enough?

Really I think anything that's a x-breed with a fair bit of bone but not too heavy will be suitable - it's temperament that matters at the end of the day though isn't it that determinds what their capabilties are going to be!

Definitely an IDx, they could probably do everything you want and be a weight carrier. Are they strong though with those solid necks?? I was looking for one 18 months ago as I'm getting older, too tall for a classic cob, somehow I've ended up with a 3/4 TBx1/4 Trakehner..... He is a sweetheart though!! On reflection, not sure, like you, that I'm a cob person, there's a fine line between confidence and boredom, I like to be challenged a little... probably not helping!!

I think that's my issue - I'm not a novice rider but just don't like spinning down the road anymore - really not my bag! I do think I'd look a bit silly on a full breed cob as I look a bit 'leggy' on my Irish TB and he's 15.2!

What about a Shire x TB or Shire x WB, they are not all heavy and the last 2 I have had looked more like WBs. They have a beautiful nature, look flashy and can carry weight. But then again my new one is TB but with nice bone and he is the nicest horses I have come across and he is flashy!!!

Someone at my yard has a 17 hand Irish draft gelding for sale. He has not really done much for about a year but I believe he has hunted in the past. PM if you want details. He is about 10/11 and is black with white socks and blaze. HE is really soppy and licky on the ground but I have never ridden him. He might be too big for you though?

mmmmm - he's lovely!

I only have a budget of 3000 to 3500 though.....so I'll join the que of thousands of others looking for that horse!

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe that is about what she is asking and you could probably make an offer as he has not done anything recently and she doesn't really ride, I think she just likes to be at the stables and talk horses as she is too scared to ride anything except her 30 year old 14.2 mare.
