I wanted basically what you are looking for - and same price bracket...
I was put in touch with someone in Dublin who sourced a few horses for me to look at - I went over tried them out - and bought one
Was only £200 to get him sent over. he is a 5yr old TB x Cob - 15.3 and very sane - but not a donkey. he needs schooling - but that isn't a big deal.
Have had him since Oct and he is an absolute star - I love him and am getting back my confidence all thanks to him. (am not a novice - but I had a fall on the road and have been scaredy ever since).
The bloke we used to find the horses has now got lots for my YO and others I know - they have all been as described - he is honest about them and any faults. I can pm you his number if you interested.
I'd say Irish as well, or Irish X TB. And if the one Bossanova knows about is the same one I know about, please come buy him quick ParkRanger before I make a mistake and buy him myself!!

I think Boss is waiting for a yay or nay off the guy who viewed him at the weekend.....just waiting to know if I can meet him or not...
I cannot reccommend IDx any higher. My boy would easily carry a man, he's quiet enough for a beginner to ride he jumps, loves XC, would go hunting all day. Bombproof even with artics. He's a gem - and I paid £1.2 for him a few years ago so it can be done!!!!
Ok you're all just being mean now and showing me your lovely horses! WRB love the last photo, looks like the two of you are having a leisurely chat as you pop a rather large hedge.....!

I'm actually considering a cob, which is something I never thought I'd say (don't mean to offend but it's my own ignorance!) but prob need a cross as my OH is 13 stone and a 6 ft and a bit rugby player

My OH is 6ft1" and weighs nearly 13 stone and he rides a 15.1hh coloured cob quite happily, and the little cob performs his socks off for him.
He does look a little tall but nothing a 15.3 wouldn't cure!
Having said that he isn't a novice, he does dressage, and our instructor has commented that he has one of the lightest seats she has ever seen for a man.
Don't write off a cob, there is one out there for everyone!! I don't consider myself a cob person either having shared an ex-racehorse but I'm seriously considering getting a cob when we finally buy something. Although I don't think OH would consider anything else!
