Recommendations for Retirement Liveries

Hi everyone!

I've been offered the opportunity to work in a country on the other side of the world, and due to its climate, its location in respect to my current home and the nature of the job I won't be able to keep my horses there. I'm therefore looking to put them on retirement livery.

Location isn't too important, provided it's in England. Ideally I'd like them in at night and out during the day. Two mares, one 17hh and the other 14hh, both 13 years old. Friendly as anything but carers must be professional.

I'd love to hear some personal experiences, both good and bad are welcomed! If you'd rather not say the name of the place publicly, please pm me.

theres one in knutsford that looks ok -

i will pm you though as i know of 2 id reccomend.....


BUT what i will say is be very careful they have awebsite/reccomendations (verbal from people you know!!)...and look legit

theres a lot out there which are just having that as a sideline - i dont truly believe a successful retirement place can be combined with "normal" livery! :) just fwiw

Have just retired mine to a farm in Devon....he was an ex advanced eventer (Australian TB) and so had been in comp yards all of his life and never, ever lived out. I was seriously worried about how he would cope but he is now living out 24/7 with a "herd" of other retirees and he is sooo happy. They live as a herd and they are only removed from the herd if ill (even the farrier goes into the field if they need trimming so that the herd dynamic is not disrupted). Lovely people who have a lovely place....my boy has now gone back to being a "horse" which is all I wanted for him in his very well deserved retirement. Pm me if you want more details because I don't want to be ticked off for advertising....

Maple Farm Stables in Surrey - owned and run by Colleen Long. AMAZING retirement livery - her care is outstanding! you wont find much better, she tends to the horses daily, brings them in grooms them, baths them in summer and sends photos to owner, gives each horse vits/mins daily.......loads of things. She is fabulous :) check out her website just google it.
 
There is a nice one near Bedford(not much help as I cant remember its name..it has been mentioned on here before..racks brain)???
