I don't know if they are classed as yard boots, but I'm loving my Ariat Telluride leather ankle boots. Having being doing all my yard duties and walking. Really warm and good grip.

@BSL2 my friend had those - the zip failed on the first pair after a few days, she exchanged them for the lace ups. She found they were OK, but not exceptionally warm and they didn't wear very well

I've got laces. Bought deliberately as I did wonder if zip would fail. I suffer terribly with cold feet and I was impressed when clearing field how warm my feet were. I'm hoping they will last about 18 months that's when I change my Grasmeres. Fingers crossed. Hope your friend finds something that's suits better.

I have these boots Elico Chalgrove and really rate them.
Pretty cheap as winter boots go and you can ride in them. Footbed roomy, wear an insole. Very lightweight and the calf has stretch so you can wear as many layers of leggings as you want and they will still fit. Comfortable for hours. Not waterproof in super deep mud but great in all other ways.
