I'm looking for a decent long riding coat, calf length with leg straps and a rear vent. Preferably waxed cotton so that it is properly waterproof and can be reproofed.

It is for a gift, I don't have the budget for a drizabone one unfortunately. I'm looking for something under £100.

I want one that sits properly over the back of the saddle, many I have seen people in recently seem more designed for dog walking and bunch up for riding. The photos when you look at websites never show the rear vent open or show someone riding in them.

Any recommendations?

I found a genuine Drizabone on Preloved for £25, it's good as new. It's too big for me really, but I still wear it. Have a look on ebay/preloved for second hand you might get lucky, and you can re proof them easily if you need to.

Failing that, I have a Ben Nevis riding coat that I've had for at least 10 years, it's still doing well. They may only do a men's version now, that was all I found on a quick hunt. Great price though https://www.bennevisclothing.com/product/stockmans-cavalier-coat/

A ri-dry is the very best coat I have ever had; for riding, for walking, anything really. Lighter weight than a Drizabone or wax type jacket but not very exciting colours!! :)

They look shorter than the long stockman style, it is for a gift and the recipient particularly wants below the knee. Thanks though

Yes, the Ben Nevis coat is good; I don't remember wearing mine for riding, yet, but I've worn it a few times for everyday use.

There's one in size L on ebay at the moment, for £64, from a seller in Sittingbourne.

More in various sizes described as being by "Nicky Adams Countrywear" and "made in UK" from £45 from a seller in London.

Thanks so much! Sadly it is a gift for a skinny youth so a large would bury him.

How long is the coat? Long enough to come below the tops of your wellies?

Do you think the Nicky Adams one is the same coat or just similar? It certainly looks a decent option at a very reasonable price!
