Bargepole

extremely long bargepole for PE rugs, in fact the longest bargepole you can find. :D

If you search on here who will lots about PE lined rugs. However if you are into weight training and want some extra practise then they are the rug for you. :D It took 2 of us to lift ours when wet. I chucked it after the first year. I felt so sorry for the horse having to carry the weight of such a heavy rug.

I am another who would NEVER EVER EVER touch a PE rug if I didn't have to at work! I won't have them anywhere near my lot! Took off a 200g full neck this morning after being on a horse in the rain last night, just typical Scottish rain not extreme, I could barely lift it over the door to hang it! I stuffed it in a haynet and weighed it - it came in at just over 2 stone! Yes 29 lbs! 13.1kg! In one rug! No way would I have my horse in that! Their seams aren't great either and often leak. The necks pull out manes like no ones business. The rugs hang very heavy over the spine and hips, there is no weight distribution at all. And they don't stay waterproof very long.

I also dislike PE rugs...I bought one on sale as knew they were a bit like marmite, the fillet strap ripped off on first wear and as people have said, they are heavy as anything

To be fair one of my Rambo rugs cross straps came off on first wear , I just had it sown back on cost me a £5 , I did not bother Rambo as it would have been more effort , it didn’t put me off them though in general the quality is good , as is my PÉ although it is the lightest in weight heavyweight but agree still heavy, but it fits very well and is lasting .

A vote here for Ruggles. I have everything from 0g to 400g in their rugs and they have been excellent. Reasonably priced, stay waterproof, tough outter and they seem to fit lots of different sizes.

I have 2 PE 450 gram rugs, they are very warm and do get heavy when wet. My old boy loves his, we are in an exposed part of Sussex with wind and sideways rain.
I've tried the liner system but find all that clipping and unclipping a hassle and in the gales we get at home the top rug leaks.

Each to their own but I have a variety of approx 50 cheap and cheerful rugs from Shires, Weatherbeeta, Saxon, DH etc and none have ever lost any straps, let alone on first use, so I was thoroughly unimpressed when a rug with a £100+ full RRP did.

Rambo didn’t work for my ISH, the front wouldn’t close and the straps under the stomach hardly met without cutting off circulation. It appears they are fine for the narrower sort. I ended up with PE rugs which are a much better fit. Too early to judge them on waterproofing, will see this winter. Mark Todd rugs are good quality too

I have them on natives and a HW cob with no problem. I use them because they do fit that type. PE are awful. Pretty much fell apart and were ridiculously big
