I currently use a Rambo duo which I love. The rug itself fits my boy beautifully but the neck is tight and caused his mane to fall out last year. The rug is looking a bit tired now and I'm thinking of investing in a new one but would really like some recommendations:) my boys neck isn't particularly long but it is deep and I really don't want him to loose his mane again. He is also a bit of a rug killer so I have to take this into consideration too:)) all recommendations gratefully accepted:)

Thank you, I have been toying with the idea of premier equine, one of the other liveries on my yard has one but its on a fine TB and I was worried it wouldn't be roomy enough on an ID cross.

they are usually a good fit around the neck/chest. just think they are getting a little expensive these days. Mind you suppose everything is.

I use Masta it has roko buckles so you can do up loose. Anything else strangles mine when puts head down to graze. All neck covers seem to be made for skinny necks. Mark Todd neck rugs sometimes fit too and have adjustable straps.

Slightly different, but I wanted a larger neck for my exmoor. This breed have very deep necks and I also wanted it to go all the way up to her ears, due to sweet itch. I bought the neck and rug separately, which worked really well. The neck is second hand and was previously used on a 15hh horse - she's 12hh! Nice and roomy for her and stays in place fine.

Townfields saddlers do their own brand of rug a 300g combo - I think it's brilliant and hasn't rubbed any of my horses mane out at all when every other rug normally did. It's cheap too - really recommend it!

My boy is a chunky monkey and was struggling getting rugs to fit his massive shoulders and one which wouldn't rub his mane out.
Gone for shires medium weight combo and fits him perfectly and mane all intact yay! Very impressed! Especially considering it was only £45

I'm going to recommend axiom on eBay - bought two for my youngsters to trash. Both cut a bit later so have big necks. Bought the 1800D 180g combos and have to say for less than £50 each delivered I am bloomin impressed. Prefer them to my premier equine that was over £200 and only 1680D. And if youngsters to end up trashing them I won't be too sad. But 1800D should make it difficult. Done necks up on tightest hole for both and still very long and roomy.

Another vote for Axiom! Love those rugs. Sadly I only have them in a fairly heavy weight which mine don't really need. They are affordable, good quality and from what I've seen, pretty tough. They do come in wacky colours though. I can't remember exactly the fit of the neck but I hate necks which seem at all tight and I remember those seemed spacious. Just search on there for 'axiom turnout' and see what's available. :)

I have got 3 of mine in the Premier Equine rugs and they all lose a section of mane in them every year. I find them very heavy when they are wet as well, apart from that they are good rugs.

I find premier equine cut very high on the neck so they do rub at the wither pad (which sits 6 inches higher than the withers!)

I have a wetherbeeta on my mare who is a chunky monkey always had masta's before but never again the wetherbeeta is a great fit & a nice deep rug with a roomy neck.Defintely worth a look.
