What do people use to pull their trailers? What is the most recommended vehicle to use to pull 2 horses with whilst being fairly reasonable to run?
Kia sorrento?
Land rover?
honda cr-v?
mitsubishi?
????????????????????????/
Sorry for yet another 4x4 post

isuzu trooper.............mine is a 3.1 TD and does 35mpg. It has the greatest pulling power of all the smaller 4 x 4's including the land Rover Discovery. Not fancy looking but a great work horse and extremely reliable.

Isuzu Trooper, lovely to drive, easy to park and manouver, quick and nippy. Cheaper to run and buy than Landrovers and much more reliable. Fourtraks are much the same.
We have a Disco as OH needs to tow 3.5t at times. I don't find it nice to drive, turning lock is not good (the older Discos have better turning lock.) Always seems to be something going wrong with it, usually little but annoying things, and very expensive to run.

Hi kpop,

Used to have old police Range Rover, converted to 3.5L diesel, was absolutely great! She could pull anything, never even felt it, even pulled wagons out of mire, now sadly deceased at 350,000 miles (but her heart-engine still doing off-road races!) Bless, RIP Bessie X.

Got newer (though still old), posher-looking Range Rover now, which, as my partner says 'couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding'. 2.5L diesel, 35 mpg-ish (if i'm driving, less with him!

), on about 150,000 miles. Wouldn't want to try tow 2 horses up a decent hill with her... she'd claim she was expiring, need smelling salts, waving a fan about, etc. Having said that, she's very reliable + nice to drive, and we sometimes overtake things, as long as we have a 3-mile downhill slope beforehand.

I once drove my boss's Discovery, with a lightweight Ivor Williams + section a in it. I could have coped better with the slopes if i'd been pulling the whole lot myself...

Old Land Rovers and Range Rovers have always been great, and keep going and going. Sorry, haven't tried others, so can't comment, and i like to think i'm staying British + doing my best (but then again, they're all probably now owned by India or something!!

Good luck in your search for a good 4x4, hope all our comments help, all bests BS x

Hi maramalade76

She had a 3.5 Nissan heart transplant (oh heavens above, not very British, is it?!)

There we go..... UK behind, as usual these days.

Your old Rangerover could have had a Trooper engine in it, I know of several people who have put them in Rangerovers.

Our old (very old at 1982 Y reg) Range Rover had a 3.8l Perkins Diesel Engine in it and we put an over drive on it as it only had four gears.

I reckon it could've pulled a truck! Fabulously gutsy. Sadly missed.

Hi Patches,

Our old girl was C reg. It's so nice to hear that other forum friends feel affection for old friends who've taken us many miles! Bet your old girl could've pulled trucks out of our clay even better than old Bessie did!

Yep, sadly missed. BS x

Love, love, love my 3L Toyota Surf. Fabulous vehicle. Had it nearly 4 years and have no trouble at all.

Me too I love mine to bits - great for towing!!

I loved my 2.8 Diesel LWB Shogun and it broke my heart when I had to part with her! She was great to tow with and if I were to get a towing vehicle again I would no doubt get another one (I thought she was quite pretty too for a big girl ;-))
