Possibly looking into getting a young connie and wondered what studs and lines would people recommend? Happy to consider studs over in Ireland and would be looking at weanling/yearling, specifically a dun or bay. I'm more interested in show type than atheletic but wouldn't rule one out. Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks :)

Don't have a huge amount of experience re Connies so probably lots of people on here more qualified than me to give advice but notice no one else has come forward so I would suggest calling some breeders and arranging to visit their studs and see their youngstock and older ridden ponies to help make your mind up. Jackie Webb (Blackthorn Stud) breeds stunning Connies but they tend to be grey...she's on the British Connemara Pony Council and NPS Area 25 Chair so she would be a good person to have an initial chat with maybe? Good luck with your search!

Not much help other then a friends just brought a Connemara foal from Dunwell Connemara Stud down in Rye Kent. His a dun and very well bred.

I am more for event ponies but i love ashfield festy, westside miarah & mamm hill (although there's tend to have choppy strides there jumps are amazing !)

Not sure for showing though !

Look at Fernville Pony Stud over in Ireland. Also I was told that a show line with fab temperaments and darker colours is by The Fugitive, not sure which stud that is though. You may need a trip to Ireland, or to Lockinge!

My Connie has The Fugitive in his bloodline (grand-sire) his sure is Canal Pirate. He is a chestnut and has a fantastic temperature but then I am biased!! I couldn't tell you anything else I am afraid, but I do believe that that is a good line.

The main thing with connies is to make sure that they have good hooves. Buying one with hoof wall separation syndrome will just bring heartache, so be aware that they have this genetic problem in the breed.

As a colour geek, I have to mention that it is impossible to get a purebred Dun connie as the Dun gene isn't in the breed. They have the Cream gene, so 'dun' connies are actually buckskin. :)

Don't know a huge amount about lines but my connemara is by Templebready Fear Bui and he is an absolute star. Competes at BD novice dressage, super safe hack, has jumped round HOYS WH courses but most importantly, he has the nicest, sweetest nature as well as good conformation. So from my narrow experience, I can recommend his lines.

Thanks for all the comments, on the hunt for The Fugitive bloodlines!

Faracat yes you're correct, sadly most people advertise them as Duns rather than buckskins!
