I've had my cob since he was five, he's now 17, and he's always been a bit of a worrier. He is very sensitive, and can be spooky, but we have been together a long time and know each other pretty well. Last Monday, we met the hunt whilst out hacking, and it boiled the poor lads brains - 11 days later and he's still scanning the horizon for them - this culminated in me loading him yesterday in the trailer, and him doing passage and piaffe (no, he has never been trained in these!) in the trailer, and then he dislodged the centre partition and it fell on him, he didn't panic and reloaded again quite happily, but started with the dressage moves as soon as I moved away from his head (I was alone). I gave up in the end, and went for a hack, which was fine and he seems unstressed, but I'm wondering if I could give him something to take his nervous edge off. Just to have him load and travel without being a stresshead would be great, once in and moving he settles down, and unloads steadily too. I'm thinking of trying either NAF Magic or New Zealand herbals V Calm - the first is magnesium, the second valerium, so opinions would be great. Thank you!

The magnesium based one will only really help if he's deficient in mg, otherwise a herbal one should help, i've had no experience with the v calm but can highly recommend global herbs supercalm and TB calmer. :-)

What about rescue rememdy if you're only going to be using it short term?
As already said, magnesium only works if they are deficient in it and valerian isn't competition legal so depends if you compete or not. I had great success with NAF Easy Going - really helped my stress head TB!
