I spent the night in A&E yesterday. I think it was a combination of the fog, I was riding at a different time of day to usual, there was some drilling happening in next doors place, and I was sharing the school, when usually I'm the only one in there. He never settled, and was being an absolute pillock, until he suddenly and unexpectededly just exploded into a bronking frenzy. I remember soaring through the air, and that's about it.

I had the worse concussion I've ever had. It was so weird; Ater my fall, lots of people from the yard, who I've known well for years came in to help, but I could not recognise anyones faces or work out what their names were (I'm told this is what happened, and I can vaguely remember struggling to try and work out who they were). I was also apparantly slurring badly and not able to stand or walk on my own.
They xrayed my neck, which is OK. Today I am bruised all over, and feel very stiff. I have a terrible headache, and apparantly it could stay for up to 6 weeks?

I'm also under strict instructions not to ride for 3 weeks.

I'm wondering what to do? I could leave him for 3 weeks, but he's really fit, and in a lot of daily work. There's a couple of people who are constantly hinting to me, that they'd like to ride him, but I'm worried about what would happen if he was naughty and had them off too?

I'm not supposed to be watching telly or on the computer, so I'll have to logoff for a bit, and come back on later! I need to get a new hat I suppose, but I guess there's 3 weeks to do it. Perhaps a full suit of body armour would be a good idea too ;)

Oh god glad you are ok though sounded awful poor you :(

If your not allowed to ride for 3 weeks, is there a way someone at the yard can perhaps lunge him, put him on a walker (if you have one) or if you feel there is someone at your yard that can ride him?.

I hope you make a speedy recovery and don't rush into the saddle take your time to heal properly although hard as it may seem.

Thanks. Yes, you're right, lunging would be a good, safe compromise and I can ask people to do that for me, while I'm still dazed and sore.
I'd never forgive myself if I let someone else ride him and they had an accident, especially as I know he can be tricky.

Either ask someone to lunge for you or get a proffestion person in and pay them to ride, making sure they are aware he can be tricky that way you should covered, should they come off but someone with more knowledge will know better than me.
Take you time and heal fully before you get back on.

Hope you feel better soon

If they know its tricky they should only be asking you if they are competent riders, and there are not many of those about in my experience. As long are they are aware of his foibles, there is nothing to stop you going up and assessing them when they ride. They may not be so keen after yesterdays incident.
PS what about one of those point air jackets along with the new hat?

Get well soon, that sounds very scarey. Take some arnica if you aren't already as well as any painkillers that you need. I'd be too worried about someone else riding the horse at this stage.

Second this solution, id have a mix of someone you know lunge, ask docs if you can do it, as its not riding ??
Id then pay a professional you trust to ride him a couple of times a week if you can, to get his head in a better place for you when youre ready to get on again
The schooling will hopefully stand him in good stead when that time comes

Ohh no i can sympathise i had a nasty fall not that i remember 7weeks ago i dont remember the night before or day that it happened and woke up in my ward and after a week i was finally discharged with lots off follow up appointments with a broken wrist and a compression injury in my neck lol plus the head injury :( apparently if you have had concussion before it doesnt take much to make it ten times worse when we get it again :( hope you feel better soon! i am still trying to remember and having memory troubles with being told things 10mins later i will forget it lol with the horrible headaches.

Regards to your horsie i would definetly get someone to lunge for you :) i am lucky to have my mum who has kept my guys going :)

All the best x
