My cob did something to his Left hind fetlock in mid July, thinking it was a sprain I rested him for a week and cold hoses and applied ice regular, the swelling went down a bit,but he was still resting at the toe a lot and was a bit short on turning, I got vet and we did the lameness work up, he was 2/10 at walk and 3/10 at trot lane, vet said needs to be scanned an nerve blocked, we did this and via the nerve block conclusion was it was a ligament problem, so scanned and x rays followed and diagnosed with a torn anular ligament, as he is insured we sent him to rainbow at malton for a annular ligament desmotomy, , orig prognosis was 80/20 for to be ridden again, when he’s had surgery vet rang to say, he had at some point in his life also torn his manicor ligament , the adhesions or scar tissue has adhered to the torn annular ligament and this reducing his prognosis to 50/50 now, anyway he cane home and was canny the was holding his leg up and seems uncomfortable. As was a bank holiday weekend I opted to send him back to rainbow in malton, they are fantastic, and re admitted him, they rang to say he want lane and they didn’t know why he was holding his toe up again, anyway I left him there another five days till stitches came out, then he cane home last Saturday, he’s doing quite good at the moment and is on five walks inhand a day for two mins a time, gradually building up, I see him walking and he walks fine on that leg, but when I’m stable he still rests his toe a bit more than I was hoping for, he had op on August 20 , I’m wondering anyone who’s horse has gone thru this op, do they always rest the toe , is it early days, he was resting it at rainbow in malton butvwalksnonbthat leg and foot fine, any advice welcome

Mine didn’t rest a toe although it did take a year before he was sound afterwards.

Oh god, a year,at what point in recovery did You start and ride again, or did You wait till he was pronounced sound by vet,
I spoke to vet and they said he mite just be a bit sore from the op, is early days only just over two weeks really, he looks to be walking fine on his bad leg, and when he’s walking inhand he is turning ok doesent look short, when I turn him to bring back to stable, it’s hard to say if he’s gonna recover , fully, I’m hoping so,even if he comes back a light hack I’ll be ok with that as we don’t do much anyway , I can wait a year too, not in a hurry, thanks

Well, we’ve had our first two min in hand walking
This morning, not good😤 daft horse is full of himself and wants to prance and spin , not allowed so had to get control headcollar , gave him some naf instant magic hope this takes effect for next walk in half an hour
