Hi
I am a regular reader on the forum, but a very irregular writer. However I just wanted to pass my experience on to warn others of the holes in Horse Recovery Insurance.
As I travel long distances with my 4X4 and trailer I thought it a good idea to take out recovery for my horse so that if we broke down I knew I could get him home.
Two weeks ago we had an accident on the motorway, not my fault, and the 4X4 and trailer were written off, fortunatly noone was seriously injured and although needing a few stitches my horse was OK. The police dealt with the vehicles and I rang my insurance to take myself, my daughter and horse home. A lorry turned up in less than an hour and took us home. Imagine my horror when a week later I received a bill for £359 because I was covered for breakdown but not accident. At no point during my conversations with the operator at the time did they mention I may not be covered.
I want to warn others, check your policy, I assumed I would be covered, and on top of everything else a bill of this magnitude is the last thing I needed.
