I was thrown from my horse yesterday and am in hospital with a compression fracture of the spine :-( I'm not allowed to move at all! I'm going for a back scan tommorow and will be in a brace for 3 months! :-( I'm gutted, scared, shocked and kind of denying its happening to me! When I fell I didn't know what to do, I landed on my bum, lay down, sat back up, kept calm and got into recovery position, I was trying to pretend all would be ok in a minute, anyway that was 13.05 yesterday, almost 24 hours ago now, 23 hours I've been on morphine-i like that stuff!! The most challenging thing I'm doing is mastering the technique of peeing in this female style bed pan!! Ha ha!!

Anyway, anyone else had a similar injury? I need to know recovery times? Dr said 3 months in a back brace and I won't ride for a long time! He didn't say how long. I run daily with my two spaniels, I don't know how I'm going to look after everythng, I mean, I know I'll have help but you can only expect that for a couple of weeks can't you?

No idea on the answer to your question I'm afraid, but just wanted to sends hugs and get well wishes to you at what must be a scary time. Rest assured you are in the best place to get well, fingers crossed you are up and about as soon as possible.
Hugs xx

Ok, RELAX. The most important thing is your health-everything else will sort itself out!!

No idea how long it'll take-but it'll take a lot longer if you rush it. So rest, and look after yourself.

People will help for as long as it takes. I can't see where in the world you are-but if you're in Glos, PM me and I'll help with the dogs x

Bless, I really feel for you and hope you have a speedy recovery.

I few years ago my daughter had a nasty fall and broke her vertebrae in two places, she was taken to A & E and had to wait over 2 hours to be seen - she was in agony. She was in hospital for a month and had to wear a back brace for 6 months......we brought a special toilet attachment home from the hospital and a wheelchair because the first 3 months she wasn't allowed to do any walking.

She wasn't allowed to ride for 18months, after that she had to take it very easy but I didn't want her to ride. Anyway she did start riding again after 2 years, I know that sounds along time but your injury may need a shorter healing time.

Glad she'snow ok Lotty! Hers sounds worse than mine! Luckily I was seen straight away, the hospital have been great. I'm not allowed to move either yet, I was assuming once the brace was on that I could-thats if I can, I can move my arms and legs so everyting is working, just not my torso, head neck! Bed is allowed a max of 30 degree tilt up so I can eat\drink.
