Right, so I have my first Hunter Trial on 9th March, but Toto can be a bit funny with certain xc jumps.. He'll normally jump logs, tyres and ordinary wooden rails. However, he can be a bit funny with water, ditches, bushy/flowery jumps, steps and anything a bit unusual. I can practice a few different types of xc jumps at home made out of showjumps, like corners, barrels, straw bales, we have a couple of small chunky log-poles plus we have some fake flowers. Also we have a small xc course at our yard to practise on. How am I going to recreate other jumps though? Help much appricatiated

There is a great simple little book from the 'Threshold Picture Guides' collection called 'Making your own jumps' by Mary Gordon Watson. It may come in handy for you.

We used to create 'ditches' by using two poles with an old rug inbetween layed flat on the school floor. I also hang a coat or a blanket over a simple straight bar to create a 'spooky' fence.

Can't begin to think how you could build steps though
