Hello, just looking for some positive information please.
September 2014 my big Cob damaged his Collateral Ligament in his left foot (diagnosed via MRI) , we achieved a couple of months box rest with which he didn't cope very well with at all. He was then sedated and turned out during the day until eventually turned out 24/7 we tried Remedial Shoes and they made him much worse so we went down the barefoot method and I have to say I honestly believe this has saved his life. It has been a long slog with regular assessments from my vet and taking life very easy with him (he's 19).
December 2016 he got the 100% sound ticket from my vet and I was over the moon, he had been going so so well. That was until a few week ago he decided to be a loon in the field....he spent upto 30 mins galloping around 3 acres, bucking, broncing, rearing, spinning looking amazing. I went to catch him as I feared he may hurt himself but he wouldn't let me. He then stood outside his stable dripping wet and out of breath......
When I got him in to ride the next day he was lame, I was hoping it was muscular but deep down I recognised his symptoms. My friend gave him a massage and then a few days later my vet came to assess and confirmed it was more than likely he had damaged his CL again
I am so upset and disappointed that this has happened again as we had so much planned this summer......so at the moment he's turned out into a small paddock with access to his stable 24/7 with a round of hay to keep him quiet. 1 bute a day.
We had a 3 week review and he did show improvement but I know that this is going to take a while....
Just would like to hear from anyone that has been through the same or has any ideas on way to help him get better.
