anyone have much experience?
have got a lovely rising connie on lvtb for 8 weeks. his problem is that he has thrush in all 4 feet. last winter he was bad, went away over the summer and was worked a lot, came back this winter, he was foot sore, farrier has shod with a few nails and equicast wrapped over to hold shoes on.
my worry about that is its making a great enviroment for bugs and I cant see whats going on underneath.
One back cast started coming away this week and my farrier has cut it off and put some nails in to hold shoe on. The frog looks manky and the back of the hoof is flaking, plus there are defecits in the bottom hoof wall at the back, presumabably where hoof has crumbled.
Will try and get pics tomorrow.
Now I can get to that foot am washing it with hibiscrub and spraying with terramycin spray
Any one had this, was it treatable, preventable
I really like him and want to keep him but dont want to end up with something in 24/7 all winter or permanent feet problems
Hes on formula 4 feet, blue chip pro, hoof power plus and have ordered seraquim elite!

My mare has thrush in 3 feet permanently.....she had it when I had her vetted and she still has it now 9 years later. I have tried every lotion and potion I have ever heard of, and it gets better in certain conditions (dry field in summer, frosty field in winter), but it is always there. It doesnt make her lame, and tbh, I have given up trying to cure it now!!

I try to ensure that her bed is as dry as possible, and she is shod every 6/8 weeks. I spray it with 'foot rot' spray in the summer to stop it from getting *really* bad, and last summer I soaked her feet in 'foot gold' which is a sheep dip solution, which seemed to dry it up, until the rain came, and the ground softens!!!

My girl has always been prone to thrush, you just have to clean well and treat every day to keep it under check.
I give salt foot baths, spray iodine, use fresh frog etc and pick out, seems to help

my cob had thrush badly when I bought him in October. I made up a mix of tea tree oil and eucalptus oil (10 mls of each) and topped it up with water in a small plant sprayer thingy. Every night I pick out the feet, brush them clean, and then spray this stuff dirctly into the frog and round the sides.Made a huge difference within weeks. Seems to flush out fab, and both oils are very powerful disinfectants.

While your horses feet are soooo bad, use neat teatree oil on the frogs twice a day (say 5 drops per foot), and on improving whack on the spray. I still do it every night as part of grooming.

Got a thrush - free bill of health from the farrier yesterday !!! HURRAH !!! Made me smile.

Try hydrogen peroxide.....10% water 90% or slightly stronger......works a treat usually...it does fizz so do not be alarmed

What to you bed him on when he's in overnight?

My mare used to get thrush every winter until I changed her bedding to shavings. I presume the shavings help to dry the feet out overnight, unlike the straw I was using before that, and she's not had another bout of thrush since. ***Touches wood***

The treatment for her thrush, before that, was to soak cotton wool in metronidazole and pack it into the clefts of the frog before vet wrapping it in place. This was changed every day initially. It soon killed off the bugs.

As a preventative measure, I tend to spray the feet with terramycin, but must admit this hasn't seemed necessary this year as her feet just seem lovely and dry with nice hard frogs.

My mare isn't on any hoof supplements as she already grows a ridiculous amount of foot meaning she needs shoeing every four weeks to keep the growth down. I think the farrier would scream if I said I put her on something to encourage more growth! lol
