Hi all

My new boy seems to suffer with recurrent thrush. He had it when I bought him, but had been stabled 24/7 so I assumed it would clear up once he was living out. It's not awful, he isn't lame, fidgets a bit whilst having his feet picked out - thats about it really - except for the stink:eek:

I'm after recommendations for treatment really. Any good old fashioned remedies that you swear by etc? I've read about using Iodine?.. just experiences please.

Would also be interested in supplements/herbs that people have found beneficial as I have a feeling this needs to be treated from within to get a long term result.

Does he have much sugar in his diet? Spring grass with more sugar can set ours off (despite having beautiful healthy unshod feet!!), we just treat with salt water, I find it helps to get the salt water in the central suculus (sp!) and any nooks and cranies if I use a syringe to squirt it in. I do it twice a day and find it clears up really quickly. Grass is more restricted now and all is well again!

He is on restricted grazing and not fed so only getting the sugars from the grass. Will try the salt wash/syringing sounds like a nice cheap solution - always good:D.

Ah yes, Hydrogen Peroxide, couldn't remember what it was but have seen this used - it fizzes up doesn't it? (and bleaches any surrounding hair). Might be worth a try if becomes persistant.

Thanks for your replies:)
