My horse has had choke a couple of times in the last couple of days. It resolves itself very quickly - I am pretty sure it's from bolting the long grass she is allowed to eat whilst I am tacking her up, and once I drag her off that she is absolutely fine (I've not been sure up until now that it was choke, as she recovered so quickly and hasn't been even slightly bothered once I've stopped her eating and it's gone). She's fine in the field picking at the sparse grazing she has. Today it was a bit worse and I quickly stuck her back in her field and watched her for ages... nothing exciting happened, she just grazed happily the whole time.
Is it possible that there is something lodged in her throat that doesn't bother her until she starts eating lots of grass very quickly? I would have thought choke would carry on until whatever it was in there was moved?
And don't worry, I'm calling the vet!
