Any ideas will be welcome on this one. My wee mare aged 11 went lame 7 or 8 weeks ago rested her for two weeks no improvement so got the vet. Vet couldnt find anything but felt it was in the left front no heat no pulse but a little bit touchy on the heel put her on bute for a week and went sound in around 3 days finished the weeks bute and rested for a fuurther week totally sound. walked her out for a week with some trotting and a little canter still sound. A further week and no problems. Went to see her today lame on the same leg at around the same grade of lameness possible 1 or 2 out of 5. Cant think of anything as there is no heat no swelling or digital pulse. She was galloped in the stubble fields yesterday so dont know if that has done anything. She has always been low in the heels but when you press them she does not react. I will rest her till next week and if no improvement will get the bloomin vet will try and get him to nerve block her foot and xray if she goes sound as he didnt find anything on his first examination. Any ideas good or bad appreciated.

Surely the vet would have flex tested her and completed a lameness work up? Mine would have anyway. The positive is that there is response from the heel. I would book a full lameness work up. the vet needs to allow enough time to do this which maybe why more was not done last time. may be just bruising but even that will not clear up if the horse is walking about on it particularly as the ground has been so hard this year. Good luck and insist it is looked into properly, after all you are the customer. Good luck.

Sorry i maybe didnt explain it properly when the vet came you could see what leg she was lame on what the vet couldnt find was an obvious reason but felt it was a foot problem. He did suggest a nerve block on the foot to see if she would come sound and if so then xray, however, he felt a week on bute and further rest wouldnt do any harm and in all fairness she did come sound on bute and stayed sound for around 3 weeks. I am going to book her into the vets surgery next week so they can give her a good going over and xray if required, that is once my daughter and her fiance give me my horse box back they are in between houses and have half of their furniture in it and all over my house do you ever get rid of you children???
PS its quite a low grade lameness and she doesnt seem to be to upset with it but it is annoying.

My boy had exactly the same symptoms, nerve block to back if hoof located the lameness to there MRI showed localised damage to his collateral ligament. Hope this isn't the case with yours
