What do you do with broken or worn out items from the yard?
Black rubber feed buckets get holes drilled in the base and are planted up with geraniums. I also have a collection of four that are kept for hoof soaking.
Large water buckets similarly become either planters for small shrubs, or potato growing.
The stiff brush head that is worn can be nailed to a block of wood and left next to the gate for brushing mud off your boots.
The old wheelbarrow that is beyond repair can be buried in the ground as a fire pit or barbecue. Obviously take the frame off first....
Metal forks and shovels with broken handles used to be shoved into the fire to burn out the old shaft before fitting a new one, but I haven't seen that done for years now.
Do you upcycle anything?

We certainly do. We, too, use old feed buckets as planters, just put some daffodil bulbs in a couple this week.
Our horses have often worn 'hand-me-down' tack over the years. One mare had a m2m bridle to fit her large head, 3 others have worn it since!

It should really be "Reduce, reuse, recycle/upcycle".

I buy things that I think will last or can be repaired. Horse broke his reins recently and I got them repaired even though it cost almost as much as buying new.
Pitch fork handle has been splinted with wood glue and bailing twine cast.

I will pay a more for product that has less plastic or packaging.

Plastic feed sacks, if clean, can be taken to the big supermarket plastic wrap drop offs or big yards could sign up to an agri-plastic recycling scheme.

The amount of poorly made tat that clearly won't last in most tack shops drives me mad.
