I know that some people store their hay on pallets & when they move the pallets they sweep up the seeds that have dropped through & use them to sow on poached areas. I was wondering, I use large round haylage bales & I get loads of seeds dropping through the pallet. Would the seeds from haylage germinate if I used them to patch any worn areas of paddock?

Thanks for any replies in advance. :)

When we had round haylage bales we cut them so there was a sort of round tray of plastic at the bottom that caught all the seeds, and I always emptied this on poached areas and they certainly seemed to germinate - the haylage was very dry tho, more like wrapped hay so not sure whether that makes a difference.

Thanks for your reply, I thought they may be affected with haylage being more moist than hay. I think I'll give it a try as grass seed is so expensive & if I can save that expenditure it'll help. ;)
