Very sad news, my thoughts are with his family and friends .
I am watching it unfold on the news, and initially it looks like he chose to save others by flying away from houses ....what a selfless, brave guy.
Tragic, thoughts to all involved, family and friends. I have very fond childhood memories of standing on my parents back doorstep and watching the Red Arrows display at Silverstone on GP Sunday in the 1970's. They were then, as now, an absolutely awesome sight, breathtaking to watch. Incredible pilots, one and all, such an awful, awful thing to happen
RIP Red Arrow. What an awful shock for everyone involved.
We live near a regional airport and very often they'll fly really low here as they come in to land - think they use our place as a turning point! Its so awful to think that it could have happened here. God knows where the plane would have come down; there's plenty of open fields around here, but also a major trunk road and electric pylons around.
I remember an incident a few years ago now when they were doing an air display at Sidmouth, Devon, and one of them ditched in the sea - I think the pilot was OK though, but I think this is the first time they've ever had a fatality?
Just want to add my sincere sympathy and condolences to the family , friends and colleagues of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging. What a terrible thing to happen.
The whole Red Arrows Team are truly amazing, I've watched their displays, and they are breathtaking. Incredibly brave, talented people. A light has defintely gone out in their team today RIP x
