I have aquired what was a red bag thoroughbred foal who is now coming up to 4. In herself she seems very happy but her co-ordination is very iffy once she gets past trot; her front legs are very stiff when she trots and she even falls over when she's going at full pelt. Does anyone know if she may be "trainable" and if so where do I start. I don't think she has the strength to ever carry someone if they aren't perfectly balanced so she'll probably just cut the grass but I would like to ensure she doesn't end up completely "wild" !!

It is placenta previa. Where the placenta detaches and is separated from the uterus. It is then expelled before the foal is born meaning the foal has no oxygen and needs to come out as quickly as possible.

AP has just posted a link to a red bag delivery on the breeding section.
the people in the video are lunatics, noisy, not very knowledgable and lots of praying going on....BUT it DOES show a red bag presentation.

It's unlikely the fact that she was a red bag foal has anything to do with her front leg stiffness. While in theory a red bag foal may suffer brain damage due to hypoxia and still survive, and in theory it's possible that the brain damage only cause locomotion problems, I suspect there is something totally different causing the problem.

Have you had a lameness work-up done on her?

Thanks for that...I haven't had anything done with her at all so far but only just really started looking at the options that may help her. I'll give that a go for starters. Thank you
