My mare foaled 4 weeks ago red bag delivery. I got foal out in 1 1/2 minutes from seeing first glimpse of red. Filly was up and looking normal but took 5 hours to get her to nurse. She is very timid and edgy. She will approach for a scratch if you are on her level but if I move too suddenly she has fallen over with fright. She seems slow to get things going through gates and doorways has been a problem. I've considered a problem with her sight but think now that's ok. Anyone any experience of red bag dummy foals and what was the outcome

I had one red bag foal and found the placenty was like rubber a very tough. i had just been to the Equine Forum when we had a presentation of red bag and I had my knive handy. Never had any problems with the foal. She is now 7 years old.

I take it her suck reflex is okay, as she's now a month old. The two dummy foals I've had both had a poor suck reflex and neither of them survived. She may well be just a nervous baby.
