Several people on FB said it helped their itchers, it's a herb reputed to help skin conditions, and as it is cheap enough I thought I might give it a go. I added the contents of a bag to the feeds of each of my itchers, and one hasn't been seen itching since. Neither has the other but it could be that he is off grass for now thanks to a mild bout of laminitis.
Morrisons currently have their own brand for 23p per box of 40 bags :) :) :)
Anyone else tried it?

Not me, but I will now! I've been struggling with my itchers since we all decided we hate benzyl benzoate.
Thanks for posting this

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try with my maneless cob - it would be lovely to see her with a proper mane again.

I have been using rooibos for a couple of years now with my two itchy horses (one v itchy with numerous allergies). It does seem to have an effect, itchiness varies with the weather so it is hard to be empirical about it, but apart from anything else the horses love it so I carry on. I buy it loose by the kg from Amazon and literally make a cup of tea, ie boiling water on a spoonful of leaves, which I then split between the feeds of the two itchies.

I have two friends who are using it very successfully with sweet itch horses, to the point that their horses have been able to go rug free after many years of suffering.

This might be worth trying as well in a fly repellant spray. I usually soak teabags in boiling water as part of the mix. As I use Rooibos anyway, its a no brainer.

i have no idea about the affects on horses but my mum swears buy the stuff for her various medical issues! will mention this to a friend with a very itchy sec D now though :)

Interesting as all mine have been itching their tails due to midgies. Does anyone know if its best to make tea with it or just sprinkle the dry tea bag straight into the feed? Just thinking about turmeric which is best fed after being cooked...

I've been feeding it to my welshie for the past 2 months and think it is helping his itchiness. He ran out of t-bags for a couple of days and was far itchier. He also loves it!

well, have been putting the contents of a teabag in horses' feeds-the itchiest one has one twice a day. Seems to be working-although we've not had extended midge periods we've had midge days. They do seem to like it but then my lot like everything!
