Just wondering what peoples thoughts were on feeding these supplements long term. My lad is on red cell after slight aneamia and generally lacking vits and mins, but after 2 months of feeding red cell and a rest is looking and working the best he ever has.

Opinions welcome! Thanks!
 
I'm not sure, I thought you were just meant to feed the bottle as a boost rather than a long term feed. It would probably be worth giving the manufacturers a call. Maybe now he is healthy again you could look at swaping him onto a general vits and mins supplement rather than red cell which is targeted at improving absorption.
 
I have been using this on and off for about a year - but I only feed it if one of the 2 ridden ones are looking a bit off colour. I have found it is a great pick me up.

I know a lot of people on here have said it has acted like rocket fuel for their horses, but I haven't found this with my girls.
 
My mare has been on redcell maintenance dose for about 2 and a half years. She is in tip top condition and seems very happy. Oddly, each time I think I'll take her off it, her mud fever comes back!

I love the stuff, and recommend it to anyone with a 'flat' feeling or looking horse.
I tend to use it for a month or so, then drop it off so it can be beneficial when needed. I don't think they would become 'immune', but my understanding is that they can only use so much of any vit or mineral, the rest goes out the back end so you're just wasting money if its not needed?
I think there is a pattern with some horses, I have one i'm about to put on it, and he was the same last year...obviously something he needs once we lose the sun. Equine S.A.D?
 
Thanks everyone. I have found the red cell has picked my lad up really well. I am reluctant to stop it because he looks so well and I suppose if there are no threats to his health, it would be ok to stay feeding it till spring when the fields are fertilised and the good quaility grazzing is avaliable.
 
I gave my boy a bottle of it in the summer when he felt quite flat, after he'd has his hocks done, and it was like giving him rocket fuel! Not sure if I would feed it long term but I think Global Herbs do a similar one don't they that is designed to be fed long term (will check that though but I'm sure a friend of mine was recommended something by GH for her slightly anaemic horse for long term use). Great pick me up though and I might start my boy on another bottle in Dec.
