Just started feeding my horse red cell today. It advises 30ml, but wasn't sure weather to give him it all in one feed or split between his morning and evening feed? Also how long does it take to see any effects. Thanks
I feed my mare Red Cell and normally give her 30ml. She has hers all in one go in her breakfast, then has salt in her tea (she won't eat her feed if I mix them up!!)
With her, it seemed to have quite a quick 'perk up' effect, couple of weeks maybe? Depends on the reason for feeding I suppose, is your horse under the weather or is it just for a general maintenance supplement?
I used to split it between feeds but I do this with all my supplements.
It is good stuff, used to be a good pick me up for one of my TBs and was excellent when she was recovering from a virus that effected the white blood cell count.
One thing - it can be rocket fuel.
Finally, and I am not trying to tell you what to do, when Delia went quiet, I did ride her thinking we finally had got things together with our jumping and it was only a few weeks later I realised she was too quiet and she started to drop weight.
Had the vet out and blood test done and she did have a virus and a high white cell count. It may be coincidental, but she was left with a heart murmur and the vet did say the virus could have been the cause and riding may not have helped things.
Might be worth having the blood test done now if you are worried that things are not right?
