My mare got blood tested as aneamic last winter and vet gave me a strong iron supplement, he said she was likely to always be abit aneamic through winter, which makes alot of sense as she would always go very dull (i've had her over 5 years) in winter and lose alot of condition and be a plod to ride (usually a wild). This year I put her on a maintainance dose of red cell and shes amazing off it, but just wondering if I'm right in thinking it can be used all year round, would really like to give her a mild iron + vit supplement throughout summer too as I work and compete alot and shes usually just only fed Alfa A Lite in summer as can get tubby!
Sorry for the essay! Cheers in advance.

It is my understanding that dietary anaemia in horses is actually caused by copper deficiency and that feeding iron can make things worse.
