Interesting that LACS have now picked up on the fact that red deer numbers are in decline on Exmoor. Since organised hunting has been banned far more uncontrolled stalking and poaching is going on. There is now a real danger of a serious impact on the herd.

it is more than ironic that they direct people to their most recent report to find more about deer hunting. This report makes the following claim : "they are increasing in the South West and East Anglia, despite the hunts claiming that without hunting, their populations would decline."

The exact opposite of the truth.

Of course as ever LACS provide 'scientific' backing for their false claim about the effects of the ban. In this case a report on deer numbers which covers the period 1977 to 2002. Three years before the ban came into place.

Hi Alec,

Just going to post on this one,

Blog post Rant update,

The LACS,

“Red Deer populations have hit their lowest number in a decade according to the official count undertaken by the Quantock Deer Management and Conservation Group”

“The recorded numbers have dropped from 958 in 2005, to 680 last year and this year only 498 were recorded. That’s potentially a drop of almost 50%”

……..does not follow that by reintroducing hunting with hounds this problem will be solved.

Everybody knew Deer number would decrease, Graham Sirl left the League stating this would be a result of a ban, The Deer society reported to the Burns inquiry of the affect the National trust ban had on Deer numbers (see below). That a supposed animal welfare organization like the League dismisses such opinion and evidence shows the extremist nature to their views. That the Labour party should cosy up to such extremists is why we should never vote them back in.

“The threat by some landowners to cull all the deer if hunting is banned should not be underestimated, as the shooting of 100 deer on the Quantocks by two farmers in 1998 as a protest at the National Trust ban clearly illustrates” Everybody knew Deer number would decrease, Graham Sirl left the League stating this would be a result of a ban, The Deer society reported to the Burns inquiry of the affect the Nationsl trust ban had on Deer number,

Since when have those gonad less morons at the LACS been worried about the truth.

They wouldn't know the truth if it jumped up in front of them and kicked them in the crutch.

You only have to look at the bTB riddled deer on their Baronsdown property to see that they know naff all about wildlife management.

The same can be said for the RSPB.
