Does anyone have any books on him or Ginger Mcain which would show where they lived other than behind the car lot in southport???

I have been to a stables in Littlethorpe, Ripon, Yorkshire that was owned by my Uncle and he said it was Ginger McCains.... Ox close was the address I think, but now I cant find anything about it on the internet!!!

I might be wrong but I was under the impression he started at Southport behind his garage and then moved straight to Cholmondeley Park where they still are now although Donald has the licence now but Ginger still helps out. We often see him at the local pub!

Oh.... sure I read somewhere that the house where Uncle lived was the jockeys/grooms cottage for Gingers racing yard...

Yep definitely on the Cholmondeley estate.
We went to a barbeque on the estate, at the yard of an eventer who is based right next door to the McCains.
I was soo tempted to have a snoop around

That would be great..... I find it hard to think my uncle would have lied to me about Rummy and Ginger being there but you never know!!!

It was a house up a long track and the only things I can remember about it were the words Littlethorpe, Ox Close and Ripon.... the main house had lovely stables and the owners even showed me Red Rums stable

I think their name was Hannan or something similar.

My uncles bungalow was used for the grooms/jockeys (probably grooms as I dont suppose that jockeys lived on site)
until he bought it.

I've got a book on Rummy somewhere will try and dig it out and have a look. But I too think he started at Birkdale behind the car lot, and move from there to Cholmondely. I "met" Red Rum a couple of times when he attended local events in his retirement, he was the most incredible character. Is it possible Red Rum was at the yard in Ripon before he went to Ginger McCain?
 
I suppose that is possible.... or maybe dementia is setting in!!

Wierd thing is that I thought that I saw it in an official biography type book on Ginger McCain and Red Rum as well.....

I will delve deeper into this as its bugging me.... bubble or not I will find out

Right, found the book and skimmed through it. Your Uncle is partly right. Ginger McCain started at the car lot in Southport, and moved to Cholmondeley. However, Red Rum was trained in Yorkshire befor Ginger McCain bought him for Noel Le mare. He was trained by Bobbie Renton and Antony Gillam, at Oxclose, Ripon.
Hope that sorts it.

Ok I got the Ginger McCain bit wrong but then I was only 14 when I was told (am a lot lot older now..... try transposing the numbers)!!!
