My horse recently had a puncture wound to her leg. It is now healing well but there is an awful lump around it which doesnt seem to be going. She currently competes dressage (which doesnt affect anything) and RoR showing which is 'supposed' to disregard blemishes (im not so sure) and i was hoping to compete her in hack classes prior to this. Leg has been xrayed and ultrasounded no underlying problems. So how do people minimise blemishes from the judges eyes surely show horses arent wrapped up in cotton wool ?!?!?

It may just need time.

Once the wound has completely healed, massagine the area might help, depending on what the swelling is comprised of; e.g. if it is just fluid, or if it is fibrous tissue.

I'm guessing that will be fully covered with hair when healed? if not I'd use the colour sprays/sticks that companies like Supreme Products make

It probably looks worse due to the clipped area, even a short covering of a summer coat would make it less obvious

I'd be tempted to massage it regularly in the hope it would reduce - I dont know if there is any science behind that but its just what I'd do!

Just thought I'd say.... My friends arab fell on his knees in the forest one day, has a lump the size of a golf ball on his off fore...got to HOYS this year & was national champ!

I hope it comes right for you! xx

Yip this is what I would say too.

That will go. TIME is the only medicine for that I'm afraid.

The wound may have healed but it takes a long time for all the connective tissue, scar tissue and trapped WBC's and fibres to disperse back into the bloodstream. The legs there do not have any muscle or soft tissue really, it's just skin, bone and the various tendons running up and down the leg with a few intertwined blood vessels feeding the skin and whats there.

You'll forget your horse even had an injury there in 6 months.

Hi thanks for your replies. yes it will hopefully cover back over with hair and i have some supreme products to disguise it with if neccessary. Gracie 21 thanks that has reassured me abit. And Tally Ho i hope your right :)

will go with the general suggestion of massage and time :)

thanks for your help
