Is anyone else reducing feed yet? Its my first winter/summer with my mare so Im unsure when to start cutting her feeds down. Suppose its just a case of feeding once instead of twice and seeing if shes ok. Only because certain lady on yard (one of THOSE people) has said not to cut down until april. Just dont want my mare to get fat as grass is just about coming through now...(yay)

well i'm just cutting the hay down at night as H has been staying out longer and ther is def new grass in our paddocks, hard feed i'm playing about with as he needs a boost without any extra weight so yes have cut down the molichaff a bit and upped the oats :P

Well my lad does not get any hard feed to cut down on, he has a couple of handfuls of Dengi for fatties at night to put a supplement into. But he will be off his big field by the end of this month and back onto an area of about half an acre and hay for the summer...unfortunately for him! Better that than lami though!

If you use a weigh tape once a week you can work out whether your horse is gaining, losing or maintaining weight, and then can adjust the feed accordingly.

Yes good idea *toddles off to dig it out* Il weigh her tomorrow then reduce her feed and weigh her again each week to see how shes doing. Thanks
