We have 3 horses out 24/7 and have a round bale on a pallet within a hay ring feeder.
Horses being horses they like to pull hay out and toss it aside to come back to which in a stable is fine but they then stand on the hay and that makes in inedible to them.
Any ideas on how to reduce the wastage?

I use hay hutches more labour as you have to fill them I only use them in April and May before my grass comes through I don't need to feed forage outside in deepest winter .
In the ideal world you would have a lovely large hard standing to put the bale on .
There's of course lots of round bale feeds and hecks the only ones that look half safe for horses are the ones were the bale is on its side is a cradle on legs .
The things the only thing that's really safe is the bale with all the net removed sitting on the ground inevitably it get muddy round the bale and the horses drag the hay out to try to stand on the dryer ground.

If you look up and to the right of your computer screen just above the adverts >>>> you will see a search box. Put in a couple of key words like 'hay' 'wastage' 'solutions' and you will find plenty of threads on this already!
