Reducing share days in the winter?

someone wanting all the fun in summer and non of the responsibility in the winter. waste of space type.

isnt that one of the points of sharing? not having the responsibility?

unless ive got the wrong end of the stick, I believe OP is happy to do stable duties etc on her weekday in winter but just not pay to ride, as due to the facilities she is unable to? why should she pay to muck out someone else's horse?

Quite within your reasons & perfectly valid too.

A share is a two way contract & both parties have to be happy.

I wouldn't pay to muck out someone else's horse through winter!

But she can't ride due to the facilities not being sufficient. Short term working around an issue is one thing, being restricted is another.

Exactly as Luci07 says. Plus, part of the point of sharing is that at the end of the day the horse is not "your" responsibility.

I share a lovely mare and hack two days a week. There has been the odd occasion where she has had to have a day off on my share day due to lameness or having had the physio etc. This is fine, as it's now and again. However, if I regularly couldn't ride on one of my days I would end the share. I share specifically so I can ride - I already have two retired horses of my own who I spend a lot of money and time on. I certainly wouldn't pay someone else for the privilege of mucking out their horse if I couldn't ride it.

Would never rely on a sharer. People are way too " flakey". Want all the fun, no commitment. That's fine I get it. Horses are expensive, unpredictable and basicslly a money pit. I understand why soneone would back off if all was not perfect. Anyway will chat in the spring when the mud has gone, the riding surfaces are perfect and the days are longer. Got to go and take care of my animals that need looking after what ever the conditions:)

There's not perfect & unreasonable though.

For me, charging someone to look after a horse that isn't theirs with no way to ride, is unreasonable.

It's not like the OP hasn't gone above & beyond their sharer responsibilities by buying additional tack, supplements etc.
