Morning all,

Im in the Buckinghamshire area and I'm after some information from you all as to how much you pay your farrier for a refit?

My TB had his done yesterday and obviously cracking job but im just a bit shocked at how much its cost!

Thanks in advance

Ant :)

If he refits all four it costs £74

A new set is £88.80

That's in Aberdeen.

Eeeek - is that the normal charge in most places? Mine has fronts only and TBH as I have a couple of rescues I think mine charges mates rates - I have used him for many years and he is pretty much a mate. I thought it was around £60 for a set!

Only have fronts but it's £35 for new and £32 for refits. My friends horse had refits once but last time my horse was done a bit earlier than normal my farrier fitted new and just told me to keep them as spares incase he loses one :-)

I pay £60 per new full set .. I wear the shoes out :/ every six weeks so no refits .. But he knocks £5 off I think if u have refits .herts area

£30 for front refits last week. £55 for a set refitted. I usually have remedial shoes on the back, and they are £80 new (fitted), so I try and refit if possible!

I always pay 60 for one trim and the other has a set of fronts. He often refits as she doesn't do much these days but he's so much less than my old farrier I don't mind. 4yrs ago I was paying 49 for fronts on two horses. That's what it cost for a full set when I got her 13 yrs ago!

The art and skill is nailing the shoe to the hoof and preparing the foot for the shoe, not the condition of the shoe. I would never have refits put on, what is the point you will just get less time for wear and shorter time for replacing of them and save yourself a fiver not worth it.

I've only had this done a couple of times and it was a few years ago.
But as I remember I only saved about £10.

They have to heat, re shape and repair the shoe as well as the hoof.
But you don't haves to pay for the actual shoe, so the shoe must not be that expensive to buy!
